SOCIETY
HISTORY
The
Society for Hungarian Philately was formed late in 1969 by a group
of southwestern Connecticut collectors interested in Hungarian
Philately. Early in 1970, SHP was chartered as a non-Profit Corporation
in Connecticut and accepted as Unit 34 of the American Philatelic
Society. SHP currently has active members from throughout the
United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia,
Denmark, Sweden, France, Netherlands, Mexico, Australia and South
America. Less than 10% of our members now reside in Connecticut,
and further efforts are in progress to demonstrate the widespread
character of our Society.
A
quarterly newsletter, The News of Hungarian
Philately, is published, and about 60% of the space is devoted
to in-depth articles related to the collecting and study of the
many phases of Hungarian Philately. A series of monographs
on specialized topics have been written, nine volumes having been
published. The Society periodically conducts mail
auction sales, and also has prepared several commemorative
covers for sale. The annual exhibit is the highlight of the year.
Each year hundreds of pages of top quality Hungarian material
have competed for numerous awards. In the past years, SHP members
have participated in various exhibits jointly with SEPAD, BALPEX,
INTERPHIL, the ASDA Show in New York and NOJEX.
Membership
is on a calendar year basis, the annual dues being $15.00 for
prospective members in the US or Canada, and international
dues for all others is $20.00. The quarterly newsletter is mailed
free to all members.
The
society is run by the volunteer officers
and board of directors, elected by the membership. Annual
meetings are held at several sites in the United States on a rotating
basis.
You
are cordially invited to join the Society for Hungarian Philately.
The membership form is located on
the Web Page and may be printed and mailed to the membership committee.
